Dr. Herbert Batte is a dedicated mathematician currently pursuing his PhD in Mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand, focusing on linear recurrence sequences and Diophantine equations. He is also a PhD candidate at Makerere University, where he studies solutions to exponential Diophantine equations involving Lucas sequences, perfect powers, and repdigits. Dr. Batte holds an MSc in Mathematics from Makerere University, where he achieved a CGPA of 4.52, researching non-linear Diophantine equations. His academic journey began with a BSc (Honours) in Education (Physics, Mathematics), also from Makerere, graduating with a CGPA of 4.60. Dr. Batte has developed strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills, along with proficiency in various mathematical and computational tools. His educational background includes advanced coursework in algebraic topology, measure theory, and probability theory, equipping him with a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and applied mathematics.

Experience

Dr. Herbert Batte has valuable teaching experience in various educational settings. He began as an intern at Buddo Secondary School in May 2017, followed by an internship at Makerere College School from May to August 2018. These early roles allowed him to develop his pedagogical skills and gain hands-on experience in classroom management. From August 2018 to 2022, Dr. Batte served as a lecturer at Ndejje University in Kampala, where he taught mathematics courses, mentored students, and contributed to curriculum development. His experience in these roles has strengthened his commitment to education and his ability to inspire the next generation of mathematicians.

Awards and Scholarships

Dr. Herbert Batte has received several prestigious awards and scholarships throughout his academic journey. He was awarded the NRF Fund for 2024–2025, which provides full funding for his PhD studies in Mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. In January 2024, he also received funding from CoeMASS to support his research at the same institution. Prior to these achievements, he was awarded fully funded scholarships from the EAUMP to pursue his PhD studies at Makerere University from 2022 to 2025, as well as for his MSc studies from 2019 to 2021. These scholarships reflect his academic excellence and commitment to advancing mathematical research.
