Research Focus

Prof. Emilia Furia’s research centers on thermodynamic studies of chemical equilibria, focusing on the interaction between metals and ligands. Her work is essential for understanding the speciation of metal complexes and their environmental and biomedical impacts. Her current research includes the thermodynamic properties of natural antioxidants, amino acids, and their interactions with biologically relevant metal cations. She also explores the sequestration capacity of ligands in complex biological systems, aiming to identify molecules for clinical and toxicological applications. Her contributions have significant implications for metal detoxification and the prevention of diseases caused by heavy metal accumulation.
