👨‍🏫 Dr. Pin Jern, CEng. MIET, SMIEEE, is an accomplished Associate Professor at Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia 🇲🇾. With a diverse background, he joined UNITEN in 2013 and has since made significant contributions. 🎓 Dr. Pin Jern is a distinguished scholar with a stellar academic journey. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering from The University of Sheffield, UK, in 2012. His groundbreaking thesis, “Development of High Speed Low Noise InAs Electron Avalanche Photodiodes,” showcases his expertise in the field. 🌐 (Thesis: Link) Prior to his PhD, he excelled in his Bachelor’s in Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Universiti Tenaga Nasional, achieving a remarkable CGPA of 4.00/4.00 in 2009. 🏫 His educational foundation was laid with distinction in the Foundation in Electrical & Electronics Engineering at the same university, earning a CGPA of 3.98/4.00 in 2005. 📚 Even in his earlier academic years, Dr. Pin Jern demonstrated excellence, obtaining outstanding results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) / The Malaysian Certificate of Education (O-level equivalent) in 2003 with 9 A1 and 1 A2. 🏆

🎓 Dr. Pin Jern Ker has been a stalwart contributor to the academic landscape at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (The Energy University), Malaysia. In his current role as Associate Professor within the College of Engineering since 2023, he continues to shape the academic journey of both undergraduates and postgraduates. 🌐

Having initially joined in 2013 as a Senior Lecturer, Dr. Ker has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in research, fostering national and international collaborations. His key responsibilities include delivering impactful teaching for postgraduate, undergraduate, and diploma programs. 📚


Dr. Pin Jern Ker is a sought-after expert in the realm of optical sensors and energy applications, recognized for his engaging talks at various prestigious platforms. In August 2017, he delivered a captivating presentation on “Optical sensors: From fundamental characterizations to applications in energy industries” at the IEEE Photonics Lecture Series hosted by the IEEE Photonics Society Malaysia Chapter, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. 🌐

His illuminating discourse continued in May 2018 at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, where he enlightened the audience on “Lighting up your future: From invisible to visible” as part of the IEEE Photonics Lecture Series. 🌟
